Operating under the motto, "Try it for a day, you may love it for a lifetime," Into the Streets is a one day volunteer opportunity that combines service with education and reflection, encouraging continued student involvement in service throughout the year. There are four goals this event hopes to attain. 1) To encourage students to volunteer on a consistent basis 2) To help familiarize students with their surrounding St. Pete community 3) For students to begin to understand and question the nature of poverty, homelessness, environmental degradation, and other such problems 4) To have fun! All of the goals appeared to have been met and surpassed, with many students eager to learn about other opportunities for involvement. Some students were even interested in leading monthly trips to the organizations they had volunteered with.

This year was a record breaking year for Into the Streets with over 300 Eckerd students participating at 19 different work sites. This was a 50% increase from previous years! Some of the sites included Salvation Army, Academy Prep, Bay Point Middle, Ronald McDonald House, St. Pete Free Clinic, Pinellas Association of Retarded Children, and Boyd Hill Nature Park. Below is a more comprehensive description of each site and the work that volunteers accomplished.
