Gamma Knox Service Dorm

The Knox Service Dorm was initiated in the fall of 2005 to provide a residence hall for students dedicated to service. The service-learning provides a unique and fun atmosphere that really draws students together. Through planning, and executing service projects with one another, the dorm quickly becomes like a family.

The service dorm has four main objectives:

  1. To support personal growth of the residents through service and education.
  2. To build a residential dorm that is defined by its occupants’ dedication to community service.

Spring 2009

For our spring retreat, Gamma Knox went to Give Kids the World (GKTW) in Orlando, Florida. This organization works with Make a Wish Foundation to give children, with life threatening diseases, the opportunity to go to Islands of Adventures, Hollywood Studios, or any of the Disney theme parks (Epcot, Animal Kingdom etc.) while providing housing and food for them in a theme park, animated filled property. Our time spent at GKTW was extremely rewarding - we worked from 8am-1pm and did everything from serving breakfast, driving families on a tram to and from where the wanted to go, serving ice cream, and running the carousal. Interacting with the families, celebrating birthdays in the Gingerbread House, and the opportunity to tour this wonderful facility provided us with a fantastic spring retreat.
