Seattle: Spring Break 05

View photos from Seattle

Nine Eckerd students and the Campus Ministries Intern set out to explore the northwest during their spring break to serve a community different from here. Arriving in Seattle, students took a day to venture around the city seeing key spots, like the Space Needle and Pikes Place Market. The following day students headed north to Anacortes where they took a ferry ride over to San Juan Island and the city of Friday Harbor.

Students immediately noticed the vast difference between a big city to a small country town. Students resided and worked at Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, where various wildlife is taken in and cared for after an injury, etc. Students assisted the staff in spring cleaning, digging a barrier for a fawn pen fence, maintained cages, and painted a building in town for Wolf Hollow's new environmental education center.

Time away from work was spent exploring the island and its various landscapes and historic sites. To end the trip, the students enjoyed one last day in Seattle roaming the city to seeing everything from the Woodland Park Zoo to the Seattle Art Museum.

Students on the trip: Armand Atkinson, Pieternel Boer, Lauren Brown, Susan Haseltine, Rebecca Helm, Diana Mangone, Tracy Pringle, Ashley Shaw, and Guillaume Tollu.

Trip Leader: Kathryn Brown, Campus Ministries Intern
