Florida Keys: Spring Break 05

View photos from the Florida Keys
On this most excellent adventure, a group of 13 crazy folks traveled to the Florida Keys to spend their spring break doing environmental service, camping, snorkeling, and taking in the sights of the Keys. The trip started out in the lower keys at Camp Wesumpkee, an amazing girl scout camp located on Summerland Key. Here, the group worked with the Florida Keys Nature Conservancy removing non-native species. From here, the group travelled north to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park for a snorkeling trip, and a back-breaking yet fun day of non-native species removal. Next the group ventured to Bahia Honda State Park, where they had a very educational experience line-splicing and snorkeling with the National Marine Sanctuary, the organization responsible for protecting the coral reefs around the Keys. The groups last couple of work days took place at the brand new Curry Hammock State park, working on a nature trail and helping to finish up the new camping area. The group enjoyed their final evening together in Key West, and headed back to Eckerd with many memories, experiences, and new friends.
