Trinidad: Spring Break '10

For our Spring Break 2010 we went down to Trinidad with a group of 15 people including one student leader and one staff member. We set off for this trip not really knowing what to expect other than that we would be working with the Red Cross of Trinidad and Tobago in association with Missions International. We arrived to a beautiful home, attached to a mission house, where we stayed with a welcoming native Trinidadian family.
Our work began Monday after a relaxing day at the beach on Sunday. We arrived at the Red Cross Headquarters in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and were immediately broken up into three groups. One group was designated the painting group, the other was designated the organizing group and the other was designated the clearing group.
The painting group was responsible for repainting the outer facing walls of the compound including the gate as to give the building a nicer more welcoming appearance. The organizing group was responsible for unloading two large containers filled with boxes of clothes that the citizens of Trinidad had donated to the earthquake victims in Haiti. They were asked to sort the boxes into clothing meant for men, women and children. Then they had to replace the now organized boxes into the same containers. The clearing group was designated a ware house that had been being filled up over the past few years that needed to be cleared out and reorganized to make room for new supplies, equipment etc.
We worked on these projects for a few days and at the end of the trip we were rewarded for our hard work with another day at the beach as well as some sightseeing around the beautiful and fascinating country of Trinidad.
