Venezuela: Spring Break 05

I took a group of 10 students to Venezuela (approx. 1 1/2 hours outside of Caracas, the capital) to do service work at Ninos de la Luz (Children of the Light). This is a Christian Ministry program that takes street kids off the street and provides them with a safe place to live and go to school as well as counseling. The group most affected is almost entirely boys and they ranged in age from about 8 to 18 years old. There were approx. 19 boys living at the site as well as children of the adults that worked at the ranch.
Our work during the week consisted of painting and installing a chain link fence. The fence was by far the most difficult project because it went up the side of a steep hill. The group helped with the entire process from digging the holes for the posts, to making cement, to installing the barbed wire. It was hardwork in 90 degree heat. The group made meals together and played with all the kids in the evenings.
