Reynolds Garners All-SSC Softball Honors
Tuesday, May 9th, 2006
ORLANDO, Fla. - Eckerd College
sophomore third baseman Lindsey Reynolds
(Evergreen, Colo.) has been named to the All-Sunshine State
Conference second team, as was announced today by Commissioner
Michael Marcil. Reynolds enjoyed a break out sophomore campaign
with the Tritons, leading her team in several offensive categories
and doing steady work in the field.
Reynolds paced the Tritons with a team-high .288 batting average,
46 hits, 23 runs scored, five triples, 15 runs batted in, and .394
slugging percentage. She also led her team in the field, notching a
remarkable 120 assists and finishing with a fielding percentage of
.963.
"Lindsey's team and I are extremely proud of her," Head Coach
Kristie Delk said. "This is a great honor, to be
recognized in such a strong conference. After a solid freshman year
where we asked her to play a variety of positions, she settled at
third this season and made great improvements offensively and
defensively."
Softball Wins SSC Series Against Nova
Southeastern
Saturday, April 29th, 2006
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Seniors
Jamie Custer and Jenn Barnes went
out in style, leading the Eckerd College softball team to a 2-1 win
over Nova Southeastern in the ladies' final game in Triton uniforms
Saturday afternoon at Turley Field. The Sharks took game one of the
doubleheader 5-0, but a 4-2 Eckerd win Friday night gives the
Tritons their first Sunshine State Conference series win since the
conference went to three-game series back in 2002.
Nova Southeastern starter Adrian Tuttle tossed a three-hit gem in
the first half of the double dip to earn her 13th win of the
season. Tuttle struck out 11 batters en route to the shutout.
But after Custer and Barnes were recognized as Eckerd's two
graduating seniors at a ceremony between games, the Tritons were
ready to go for game two. Sophomore Lindsey
Reynolds ripped a line shot down the right field line in
the first inning. Sophomore Julie Kim followed
with a single to center field, and junior Amy
McGathey loaded the bases by taking a walk. Sharks'
starter Shannon Lynch walked Eckerd catcher Wes
Caplinger, who picked up an RBI. But the Tritons would
leave three on base and cling to a one-run lead with one inning in
the books.
The Sharks knotted the score in the third when Missi Perez's single
drove in Nicole Rodriguez, who had led off the inning with a
hit.
The score remained tied until the fifth inning. McGathey singled to
center and later scored on an error by the shortstop. Once again
the Tritons stranded three runners, but the Eckerd defense managed
to hold the Sharks scoreless for the remaining two innings.
Barnes earned the win in her final start as a Triton. She may have
saved her best game for last, allowing just four hits over seven
innings.
Eckerd finishes the 2006 season 15-38 overall, and 4-20 in the SSC,
a marked improvement over last season's finish (5-40, 0-24
SSC).
