Gabby Gattuso Named SSC Basketball Freshman of the Year

ORLANDO, Fla. - Eckerd College
forward Gabby Gattuso has been named the Sunshine
State Conference Basketball Freshman of the Year, as was announced
by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.
Gattuso, a 6-1 forward from Largo, became the first freshman to
lead the SSC in scoring in four years. The Triton standout enters
the SSC tournament averaging 16.6 points per game, more than one
point better than the next closest scorer. During conference play,
Gattuso picked up the pace even more, averaging 16.9 ppg. In
addition to her scoring prowess, Gattuso also ranks among the SSC's
top rebounders, currently placing eighth with 7.6 rebounds per game
and fourth with 3.2 offensive rebounds per contest. Gattuso also
ranks 12th in field goal percentage (.400), 15th in free throw
percentage (.667) and 12th in blocked shots (1.0 bpg).
Gattuso was also named to the All-SSC Second Team.
"It's amazing what Gabby has been able to accomplish as a freshman
in this tough league," said Eckerd Head Women's Basketball Coach
Brian Shultes. "She has a great future ahead of
her, and I'm extremely proud of her."
The Eckerd women's basketball team will face Florida Southern in
the opening round game of the SSC Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled
