Baseball's Sinicola Earns Second Team All-SSC Honors

ORLANDO, Fla. - Eckerd senior third baseman Mike Sinicola has been selected to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team as announced by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.

A three-year starter at the hot corner for the Tritons, Sinicola concludes his career with his first All-SSC selection after hitting a healthy .341 while providing steady defense at third. In addition, Sinicola proved to be one of the Tritons’ best hitters in the clutch, hitting .328 with runners in scoring position while going 12-for-21 (.571) with a runner on third base and less than two outs.

Flagler's Pitching Then Hitting Leads to Doubleheader Sweep of Eckerd Baseball

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Flagler Saints (11-18) relied on pitching in the first game of a doubleheader against the Eckerd Tritons (13-14), then out-slugged the Tritons in game two to sweep the Navy and Teal in regional action on Saturday afternoon at Flagler Stadium. The Saints won game one 5-1 before felling the Tritons 18-15 in game two.

In game one, Johnny Gaines stole the show for Flagler, throwing a five-hit, one-run complete game gem while striking out nine Tritons.

Eckerd Baseball Creates Memories for Latin American Children

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Baseball team left a lasting impression on 14 underprivileged Latin American youths on Thursday. A group of baseball and softball players, age 13-16, from Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico joined the Tritons for practice at the Turley Athletic Complex.

The youths, under the supervision of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Social Affairs SportsUnited office, have been brought to Florida to, among other activities, view semifinal round action of the World Baseball Classic at Dolphin Stadium in Miami. Before returning to their home countries, the youths will visit Northeast High School in St. Petersburg and practice with that school’s team.

Baseball Holds Off Saint Leo in SSC Opener

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After losing a 3-0 lead, the Eckerd Tritons (11-7, 1-0 SSC) prevailed in a bullpen battle with the Saint Leo Lions (6-14, 1-3 SSC), winning by a score of 7-5 in the Tritons’ SSC opener on Friday evening at the Turley Athletic Complex.

Eckerd struck first, scoring three runs in the bottom of the third as Chris Clinton laced an RBI double down the left field line before Jarrett Mackin plated two runs on a single.

Eckerd Baseball Splits with Merrimack

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After strong starting pitching and defense led the Eckerd Tritons (8-7) to a 4-3 victory over the Merrimack Warriors (2-2), the visitors turned the tables on the Tritons, slugging their way to a 9-1 victory in game two of a doubleheader at Eckerd’s Turley Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon.

In game one, Merrimack’s Mike Andre gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Eckerd answered quickly, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of RBI singles by Chris Clinton and Matt Heller and a sac fly by Joe Dabah.

Baseball Splits with Warner Southern

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After falling behind 3-1 after two and a half innings of play, the Eckerd Tritons (2-3) rallied behind a pair of RBI doubles in the bottom of the third to overtake the Warner Southern Royals (2-2) by a score of 7-3 before falling to the Royals by the same score in game two of a doubleheader played at the Turley Athletic Complex.

In game one, the Royals took advantage of two Eckerd errors to score two unearned runs in the top of the first inning before Chris Clinton scored after a failed stolen base attempt by Mike Alvarez, making it 2-1.

Branca's Slam Powers Baseball Past Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. - Eckerd 1B Dan Branca went 2-for-5 with a grand slam and five RBI to lead the Eckerd Tritons (1-2) past the Webber International Warriors (1-4), 11-8, on Wednesday night.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning when a Joe Dabah RBI triple followed by a Jarrett Mackin run-scoring double gave Eckerd a 2-0 lead. Mackin expanded the lead to 3-0 when he stole third and scored on a throwing error.

Baseball Drops Two in Season-Opening Super Sunday Doubleheader

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The Eckerd Baseball team struggled with the bats as the Florida Tech Panthers (2-0) swept a doubleheader from the Eckerd Tritons (0-2) by scores of 2-1 in 14 innings, and 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at Florida Tech’s Seminick-Hall Field.

In the first game, Eckerd trailed the Panthers 1-0 until 3B Mike Sinicola tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning. CF Chris Clinton then preserved the tie in the bottom half of the seventh, when he threw out Joe Clouse at the plate, preventing what would have been the go ahead run.
