Bill Buttner enters his fourth season as Head Men’s Golf Coach for the 2005-06 academic year.  Buttner was honored as the 2005 Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year, after his Tritons placed third at the SSC Tournament.  Junior transfer Niclas Rockmann won medalist honors at the tournament, earning him First Team All-SSC honors. 

Buttner, a 1978 graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, brings to Eckerd a wealth of playing and teaching experience to the program. Buttner enjoyed a 15-year professional career, including six years on the PGA Tour, five US Open appearances, two years on the Nike Tour, and several more years on various international tours. Buttner has also served as a professional instructor for all levels of the game.

Buttner, who became a full-time member of the athletic department staff in the fall of 2005, will spearhead the new Eckerd women’s golf program scheduled to begin competition during the 2006-07 year.
