The Eckerd Department of Athletics officially launched its new website, EckerdTritons.com on Wednesday, as announced on July 15. The site, designed by Internet Consulting Services (ICS) and powered by ICS’ signature content management system, SIDEARM, is scheduled to launch Wednesday and may take anywhere from four to 48 hours to propagate itself around the world-wide web.

Harrison’s promotion comes roughly one year after joining the Tritons. Currently, he oversees all communication and recordkeeping efforts for the college's 11 varsity sports. In addition, Harrison manages Eckerd's athletics website, webcasting program, produces the Athletics Banquet slideshows, and is the public address voice for all of Tritons' home athletic events.

The Eckerd Department of Athletics is mourning the passing of sophomore men’s tennis player and Triton Award winner William Holt Weeks. Weeks, 21, and his brother, Stone Taylor Weeks, 24, were pronounced dead after a fiery accident involving four tractor-trailers on a Virginia highway.

It appeared as though the Tars would spoil Eckerd’s senior night. Eckerd College Sports Information Director Guy Harrison has announced the schedule for the Fall season on the Tritons Radio Network in conjunction with Stretch Internet. The schedule begins on Thursday, September 4 with women’s volleyball’s home opener at 7pm against Colorado State-Pueblo.

Dr. Bob Fortosis, who assumed the reigns as the college’s second full-time AD in the Fall of 2003 has seen his list of responsibilities grow and expand tremendously since first coming to St. Petersburg almost five years ago. Those responsibilities are not only limited to Eckerd College but have recently expanded into the national realm with the NCAA as Fortosis earned a coveted spot on the Division II Management Council.

The Eckerd College volleyball team announced the addition of eight new players to the 2008 squad on Monday. This is the largest recruiting class to date for Head Coach Courtney Draper, who is entering her fifth season at the helm of the Tritons. After advancing to the NCAA Tournament for two consecutive seasons, where the Tritons won over 20 games each year, Draper will look to veteran leadership and a solid recruiting class to enter deeper into the tournament this fall.

Down 3-2 heading into the final inning of the opening game against Southeastern University, the Tritons (3-7) put on their rally caps and pounded out three hits, capatalized on two defensive errors to plate two runs and pull out a thrilling 4-3 victory at Turley Field on Saturday afternoon. The Tritons couldn't get the same result in the second game as Southeastern overcame EC 12-8.

The visiting Florida Gulf Coast Eagles came into St. Petersburg on Friday evening and handed the host Tritons a sound 3-0 (30-23, 30-14, 30-15) defeat. The Eagles, ranked 10th in the most recent AVCA poll, win their 25th straight game to improve to 26-2 while the Tritons, who took a brief respite from SSC action, fall to 19-11.

EC only surrendered one game to an opponent in three matches and everyone on the Tritons' roster played a role in the positive outcomes. The Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame grew by nine members as seven former student-athletes and two former coaches were inducted as members of the Class of 2005-2006 on Saturday evening, June 10, 2006 at the Hilton Hotel in the Walt Disney World Resort. The 2005-2006 Hall of Fame Class included Eckerd College men's basketball standout Kerwin Thompson who played for the Tritons from 1992-96.

A total of 84 student-athletes representing all nine member institutions in seven different sports were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioners List of Outstanding Achievement for the months of May and June, it was announced by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. This month's list included two nominees from Eckerd, both tennis players as SSC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Sebastian Niedermayer and his doubles partner Nikola Vujovic finalized their 2005-06 season and their tennis career by earning this final award.
