Baseball Wins Final Series of 2008

The Eckerd College baseball team ended their season in style as they split a doubleheader with visiting Rollins College. Combine the split with last night's victory and Eckerd claims the final Sunshine State Conference series of the 2008 season. The Tritons dropped the opener 21-0 but rebounded behind some fine pitching to claim the finale 7-3.

The 15th-ranked Rollins College Tars were able to defeat the Eckerd College Tritons in SSC doubleheader action as Rollins took game one 8-0 (6 innings) and 8-0 (5 innings) on Saturday afternoon at Lake Island Park. The Tars improve to 36-14, 12-8 and the Tritons conclude their season 8-47, 2-19 in conference.

Rollins College pitcher Nicole Anderson struck out 15 and allowed just one hit as Rollins downed Eckerd 4-0 in a Sunshine State Conference match-up Friday. Sherri Rabenold led the 15th ranked Tars bats, going 3-4 with a run scored and RBI. Monica Meadows hit 2-3 with two runs batted in.

The Eckerd College baseball team fought hard as they traveled down to South Florida but the Tritons were ultimately swept by host Nova Southeastern, losing game one 10-9 in ten innings and game two 14-9. The two wins brings NSU to 27-17 on the season, including 11-5 in Sunshine State Conference play. Eckerd falls to 13-33 overall and 2-19 in SSC play.

When the last pitch crossed the plate in the ninth inning, just after noon, the Crimson had defeated the Tritons 5-1.

Eckerd College senior Joe Sinicola tossed a near-perfect game as he completely shut down visiting Saint Leo University en route to a dominating 14-0 second game victory on Saturday afternoon. That win, coupled with Eckerd's 9-2 victory earlier in the day, gave the Tritons the series win over Saint Leo and improves the Teal and Navy to a .500 record at 12-12 overall.
