Former Triton baseball standout and softball assistant coach Josh Beauregard will join the head coaching ranks this year as he has been tabbed the new head coach of the Eckerd College softball team it was announced Tuesday, August 14th by Eckerd College Director of Athletics Dr. Bob Fortosis.
Beauregard assumes the reigns of the softball program after working as an assistant under former coach Kristie Delk, who resigned earlier this month to pursue a career in education.
The Eckerd College alum was a valuable member of the Tritons baseball program, playing four years under Head Coach Bill Mathews, and graduating in 2003 with a degree in Business Management and Athletic Administration.
"I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity as head coach of the Eckerd College softball program. I am excited to have the chance to put my passion for coaching to work," Beauregard said.
After his career at Eckerd concluded, Beauregard was drafted in 2003 by Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics where he played in the minor leagues as a centerfielder while helping lead the Tritions' softball team.
"I am thrilled that we are able to elevate Josh to the head coaching position after he has put in so much hard work these past three years as an assistant," Dr. Fortosis said. "He knows the program and its players and I feel he will be able to continue building what Kristie Delk started. I expect great things from Josh and the Eckerd College softball team in the coming years."
Beauregard marks the fourth Triton head coach (of 11 total sports) and the ninth Athletic Department staff member to hang an Eckerd College diploma on the wall in their office.
"Eckerd College and their community have allowed me to pursue many of my own personal dreams, I look forward to working with the staff, coaches and community to see that our softball ladies may do the same."
