Eckerd Softball Splits SSC Doubleheader with Florida Southern

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla - The Eckerd Tritons (15-25, 1-8 SSC) snapped a 22-game losing streak in games against the Florida Southern Moccasins as they split a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader with the Mocs on Saturday afternoon at the Turley Athletic Complex. In game one, the Tritons defeated Southern 6-4 before falling in six innings, 10-2. With a ferocious breeze going out to left field, the Complex was a veritable launching pad as both teams combined to hit five homers on the day.

Eckerd Softball Rallies to Salvage Split at Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. - After falling 2-0 in game one, the Eckerd Tritons (13-22) rallied in game two to defeat the Webber International Warriors (18-8) on Monday afternoon at Webber’s Nancy Nichols Field.
Game one was another pitcher’s duel featuring Alex Koronkiewicz of the Tritons and Webber’s Kristen LeFan, the reigning NAIA National Pitcher of the Week. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when LeFan helped her cause with a two-run double down the leftfield line, giving the Warriors a 2-0 advantage.

Eckerd Softball Rained Out at Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Saturday's SSC doubleheader between the Eckerd Tritons and Barry Buccaneers has been postponed due to rain. Play will resume on Sunday at a time to be determined. Rained stopped game one of the twinbill after the end of the second inning in a scoreless ballgame.
When play resumes, Eckerd's Kristen Torres will step to the plate against Barry starter Brianna Smith to leadoff the top of the third.
Barry's Jack Throws Perfect Game as Eckerd Softball Falls

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Barry senior pitcher Amber Jack threw a perfect game to lead the Barry Buccaneers (16-9, 4-1 SSC) over the Eckerd Tritons (10-19, 0-4 SSC) by a score of 3-0. For the game, Jack struck out 11 Tritons over seven complete innings.
The Buccaneers got on the board first in the bottom of the third as Amanda Goelz plated Shyla Rider on a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Barry would then increase its lead to 2-0 in the fourth on an RBI single up the middle by Rider.

Eckerd Softball Rallies to Win Game One then Slugs its Way to a Doubleheader Sweep at Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (12-18) rallied in the seventh inning to erase a 2-0 deficit, scoring three runs in the inning to overtake the Flagler Saints (12-21) in game one of a doubleheader before invoking the mercy rule with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap on Wednesday at Flagler Field.

Softball Slugs Its Way to Doubleheader Sweep over Kentucky State

WINTER PARK, Fla - Freshman outfielder Alex Sasso went 4-for-7 with two homeruns, one of which was a grand slam, six RBI and four runs scored to lead the Eckerd Tritons (8-10) to a doubleheader sweep over the Kentucky State Thorobrettes (0-7) on Monday night at Rollins College’s Lake Island Park. In game one, the Tritons defeated KSU 9-1 in five innings before winning game two 20-2 in five. With the victory, Eckerd matches its win total for 2008.

Softball Falls in SSC Opener with Tampa

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - After rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth, the Eckerd Tritons (6-8, 0-1 SSC) could not overcome the Tampa Spartans (4-2, 1-0 SSC), falling by a score of 3-1 on Friday night at the Turley Athletic Complex to open both teams’ SSC schedules.
Both squads’ starting pitchers dominated the early innings and did not allow a run until the top of the fifth when Tampa’s Ashley Arcuri ripped a run-scoring single down the leftfield line off Eckerd starter Alex Koronkiewicz, giving the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Softball Drops Two at PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - After almost rallying for a third-straight nail-biting victory, the Eckerd Tritons (2-2) succumbed to a doubleheader sweep at the hands of the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (10-3) on Saturday afternoon at Howard Park. In game one, the Sailfish defeated the Tritons 5-4 before beating Eckerd 11-0 in five innings in game two.
In game one, PBA held a 4-0 lead going into the top of the seventh before Aleena Oimoen hit her second homerun in as many games, a three-run shot, to make it 4-3. Sailfish starter Heather Laird, who struck out 10 Tritons, held on for the victory, however, handing the Tritons their first defeat of the season. Tritons’ starter Christina Hughes took the loss.

Eckerd Softball Wins a Pair of Nailbiters in Season-Opening DH Sweep Over Northwood

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (2-0) grit their collective teeth to win two nailbiters at the Turley Athletic Complex on Friday evening, defeating the Northwood Seahawks (0-8) by a scores of 6-5 in eight innings and 5-4 to open the 2009 campaign.
In the first game, the Seahawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring three unearned runs off of Tritons’ starter Christina Hughes.
