Eckerd Women's Basketball's Olivia Nagle Tabbed Daktronics First Team All-South Region

Olivia Nagle MONGOLIA, Ark. - After a Cinderella-like season in which the Eckerd Tritons women’s basketball program reached new heights, the squad has another feather to place in its cap as senior center Olivia Nagle has been selected to the Daktronics All-South Region First Team.

Nagle, who earned Daktronics All-Region Second Team honors following the 2007-08 season, has earned her first All-Region First Team selection and, thusly, is under consideration for the Daktronics All-America team.

Voting for the Daktronics All-South Region team was conducted among the region’s sports information directors.

Nagle averaged 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest in leading Eckerd to a trip to the Sunshine State Conference tournament semifinals. In a thrilling 63-60 conference quarterfinal victory over Florida Tech, Nagle registered a double-double, accumulating 20 points and 11 rebounds. For her effort, the Acton, Mass. product was named to the SSC All-Tournament Team.

Honsinger Tabbed Coach of the Year as Tritons Basketball Picks up All-SSC Hardware

ORLANDO, Fla. - These days, it’s good to be a Triton, especially if you are fan of the Eckerd Women’s Basketball team. A day after the Tritons’ thrilling 63-60 SSC quarterfinal victory over the Florida Tech Panthers, Eckerd head women’s basketball coach Paul Honsinger has been tabbed as the Sunshine State Conference’s Coach of the Year as announced by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil. In addition, senior center Olivia Nagle and sophomore guard Ashley Lutz were selected to the All-SSC First and Second Teams, respectively.

Voting for the All-SSC teams is conducted amongst the league’s sports information directors and head basketball coaches.

Eckerd Women's Basketball Wins SSC Quarterfinal Thriller; Will Face Tampa on Saturday

PETERSBURG, Fla. - Sophomore guard Ashley Lutz connected on the go-ahead bucket with 53 seconds to go while Olivia Nagle led all scorers with 20 points and 11 rebounds and five assists as the third-seeded Eckerd Tritons (17-11) defeated the #6 Florida Tech Panthers (18-10) by a score of 63-60 in quarterfinal action of the BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Championships on Wednesday evening at Eckerd’s McArthur Center.

The win sets a new program record for wins in a season while vaulting the Tritons to the SSC Championship semifinals were the second-seeded Tampa Spartans lay in wait. The two squads, who split their two regular season meetings, will square off at noon on Saturday, March 7 at Nova Southeastern University’s Don Taft Arena at the University Center.

By virtue of numerous results and favorable tiebreakers, the Eckerd Tritons (16-11, 9-7 SSC) have earned a three seed and will host the sixth-seeded Florida Tech Panthers (18-9, 7-9 SSC) in first round action of the 2009 BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Championships on Wednesday, March 4 at 7pm at the McArthur Center. This marks the first home postseason game in Eckerd women’s basketball program history.

Eckerd Women's Basketball Concludes Regular Season with Loss to Rollins

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Senior guard Javiera Novion scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting but the Rollins Tars (23-4, 12-4 SSC), who locked up an SSC Regular Season title, won the day, defeating the Eckerd Tritons (16-11, 9-7 SSC) by a score of 71-62 on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

Rollins looked poised from the outset, jumping out to a 13-6 lead courtesy of Jasmine Bradley’s jumper with 14:28 to go in the first frame. Eckerd, which never held a lead, tied the game for the first and only time, thanks to a layup from Cierra Harris with 12:22 to go, making it 13-13.

Eckerd Women's Basketball Gains Control of Post-Season Destiny with Win at Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Jockeying for positioning for the upcoming BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida Sunshine State Conference Basketball Championships, the Eckerd Tritons (16-10, 9-6 SSC) got a brief scare from the Saint Leo Lions (10-16, 2-14 SSC) but would eventually prevail as four Tritons scored in double figures, en route to a 75-58 win on Wednesday evening at Saint Leo’s Bowman Activities Center.

By virtue of its victory and subsequent loss by Florida Southern at Tampa, Eckerd finds itself in sole possession of third place in the SSC, leading up to its regular season finale against first-place Rollins on Saturday.

Women's Basketball Drops Another Barnburner on the Road

MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the second time in as many games, the Eckerd Tritons (14-10, 7-6 SSC) held a lead within the final minute of regulation, only to see victory slip from their grasps as the Florida Tech Panthers (17-7, 6-7 SSC) defeated the Tritons by a score of 64-62 on Saturday afternoon at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center.

The two teams went toe-to-toe in the first half, accounting for six ties and three lead changes in the frame. A layup by Javiera Novion with 43 seconds left in the half gave the Tritons the final lead of the half making it 35-34 going into the locker room.

Shorthanded Eckerd Women's Basketball Falls in Heartbreaker as Comeback Effort Comes up Short

TAMPA, Fla. - Despite being limited to only seven available players, the Eckerd Tritons (14-9, 7-5 SSC) nearly overcame a 17-point second half deficit as they were defeated by the Tampa Spartans (17-5, 7-4 SSC) by a score of 64-59 on Wednesday evening at Tampa’s Bob Martinez Center.

The loss puts Tampa a half-game ahead of the Tritons in the SSC standings while Eckerd falls into a tie for third place with Florida Southern.

Defense Powers Surging Eckerd Women's Basketball to Another Lopsided Victory

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Defense was the name of the game for the Eckerd Tritons (14-8, 7-4 SSC) as they held the Lynn Fighting Knights (14-7, 5-5 SSC) to 28 percent shooting from the field en route to a 66-49 win on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center. The win gives Eckerd eight wins in its last nine contests.

In the first half, the Tritons started quickly out of the gates, jumping out to a 24-6 lead while holding the Knights to just 24 percent field goal shooting for the half. A layup by Lynn’s Chelsea Patterson, however, capped an 11-7 stretch, allowing the Knights to close the gap to 31-18 at the half.

Eckerd Women's Basketball Holds Off Flagler on the Road

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Olivia Nagle scored 21 points to lead the Eckerd Tritons (11-7) past the Flagler Saints (2-17) by a score of 69-61 on Saturday evening at Flagler Gymnasium. The Tritons used a 19-2 run at the end of the first half to carry themselves to a 35-17 halftime lead.

In the second half, a made layup by Jordan Stacey gave Eckerd its largest lead of the evening (46-27) with 15:44 to go. Then, a free throw from Flagler’s Chanti Beckett followed by one of three second half three-pointers by Christy Forsyth sprung the Saints on a 26-11 run over the next 14:11 to shrink the Tritons’ lead to 63-57 with 55 seconds left.

Nagle Leads Surging Women's Basketball to SSC Victory Over Saint Leo

PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd senior center Olivia Nagle filled up the scoresheet on Wednesday evening as she scored 26 points, grabbed rebounds, and tossed five assists to lead the Eckerd Tritons (10-7, 4-3 SSC) to a 79-63 SSC victory over the Saint Leo Lions (7-9, 0-7 SSC) at the McArthur Center.

Scoring runs were aplenty in the first half as Eckerd would go on a 10-2 run, giving them a 24-16 lead with 9:21 left in the half before Saint Leo would go on a 9-0 run to take a 25-24 lead.

A made layup by Nagle then sparked the Tritons on a 16-4 run, giving them a 40-29 lead. The Lions were able to trim the Eckerd lead to eight before the half but were simply over-matched in the second frame.

Eckerd Women's Basketball Storms Past PBA

, Fla. - Eckerd senior point guard Javiera Novion scored 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds and tallying four assists to lead the Tritons (9-7) over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (6-13) by a score of 63-46 in non-conference action on Monday evening at the McArthur Center.


After a layup by PBA’s Chanell Byrd opened the scoring, a layup by Novion followed by back-to-back baskets by Jennifer Kinney gave the Tritons a lead that they would never relinquish.

The Tritons maxed its lead at 50-28 following a Stephanie Grace layup with 9:23 left in the game. A pair of free throws by PBA’s Kristine Webb trimmed Eckerd’s lead to 14 but that is as close as the Sailfish would get as the Tritons coasted to the victory.

For the game, the Tritons shot 46.6 percent from the field while the Sailfish only shot at a 29.6 percent clip. Eckerd also out-rebounded PBA 42-29.

For the Tritons, Ashley Lutz poured in 15 points with four rebounds and four assists while Cierra Harris tallied 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd Tritons (8-7, 3-3 SSC) rode an explosive second-half offense, one that shot a blistering 58.1 percent in the second frame, to a convincing win over the Florida Tech Panthers (13-4, 2-3 SSC) by a score of 82-62 on Saturday evening at the McArthur Center.

Senior center Olivia Nagle led the Tritons with 14 points on 5-of-5 shooting from the field in the second half and scored 18 for the game with 12 rebounds. The Tritons attacked the Panthers from all angles with four of the team’s available eight players scoring in double figures.
