Nagle Repeats as SSC Player of the Week

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - For the second week in a row Eckerd College junior Olivia Nagle sits atop the Sunshine State Conference as its Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Nagle helped the Tritons extend their win streak to five games, averaging 14.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 0.5 steals in a pair of victories.

In a 69-48 win at Rollins, she narrowly missed a double-double with nine points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Nagle especially shined in a 64-63 thriller versus Lynn, notching 19 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

Tritons Shock Lynn with Last Second Win

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's basketball team showed that they are a serious contender this season as they overcame a three-point deficit with 37 seconds left to stun visiting Lynn University 64-63 in Sunshine State Conference action from the McArthur Center on Saturday afternoon.

With Lynn (15-5, 6-3 SSC) holding a three-point lead with under a minute to play, junior Olivia Nagle was fouled but still converted the layup. With the Tritons (14-6, 4-5 SSC) down by one Nagle missed the free throw chance but junior Javiera Novion pulled down a crucial rebound to keep the ball in EC's hands.

Tritons are on a Roll After Upset

Women's BasketballWINTER PARK, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's basketball team posted their third-straight conference win and fourth overall as they upset Rollins College on the road, posting a 21-point win over the two-time defending Sunshine State Conference with a 69-48 final score.

Although the Tars (10-7, 2-6 SSC) kept the reigning conference Player of the Week Olivia Nagle to just nine points, the rest of the Tritons picked up the scoring slack as sophomore forward Samantha Infantino scored 23 points off the bench and freshman guard Ashley Lutz added 11 to help Eckerd post the big win.

Nagle Earns Conference Honors After Undefeated Week

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Eckerd College women's basketball player Olivia Nagle has laid claim to the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week award for the week ending January 28th.

Nagle had a stellar week in leading the Tritons to a pair of SSC wins, their first consecutive conference victories since the 2004-05 season. The Acton, Massachusetts native averaged 24 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals per game.

Tritons Explode to 98-72 Victory Over Saint Leo

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's basketball team used a 57-point second half to post a 98-72 victory over visiting Saint Leo University in Sunshine State Conference action from the McArthur Center on Wednesday night.

The Tritons' (11-6, 1-5 SSC) best offensive performance of season did not have the greatest start as they found themselves in an early fight with the Lions. Action from both benches was sloppy early as the teams combined to tally 27 turnovers in the opening stanza. Each team shot 54 percent from the field in the first half and changed the lead 12 times with Eckerd taking a 41-38 advantage into the locker room.

Tritons Push Winning Streak to Eight

Women's BasketballWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Eckerd's Javiera Novion scored a game high 19 points to lead Eckerd College to a 79-54 victory over Northwood on Tuesday evening. The win continued the undefeated season for the EC women as they are now 8-0 and off to their best start in program history.

After EC jumped ahead on an 8-0 run in the early going, Northwood went on a 10-5 run fueled by a pair of three pointers.

Tritons Get Blowout Win Over Johnson & Wales

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's basketball team improved to an unblemished 7-0 for the season with a 82-41 blowout win over visiting Johnson & Wales on Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center.

Even though the final score saw the Tritons double-up the visitors from Miami, the game was not looking good for Eckerd in the opening moments as the Wildcats held EC scoreless for the first three minutes. They would eventually jump out to an 11-3 lead on the Teal & Navy before the Tritons woke up and began the comeback.

Tritons Roll Through Thanksgiving Classic

Women's BasketballST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - It was another great day to be a Triton on Saturday as both basketball teams posted wins in the final day of the 2007 Eckerd College Thanksgiving Classic. The women easily handled Ohio Valley University, defeating the Fighting Scots 92-69 to remain a perfect 4-0 to start the year. The men’s game was not as easy as the Tritons overcame a five-point deficit with less than two minutes to play as they defeated Valdosta State 81-78 to improve to 3-2 on the season.

On the women’s side, Eckerd came out strong and played a complete game, from the opening tip until the final buzzer, without letting up on the Fighting Scots.

Women's Basketball Voted Ninth in SSC Preseason Polls

Coach Paul HonsingerORLANDO, Fla. - The Eckerd College women's basketball team knows they are going to be fighting an uphill battle during the 2007-08 season and the Sunshine State Conference preseason voting made it official as the Lady Tritons found themselves in ninth place.

2007 Tournament Champion Tampa has been selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2007-08 Women's Basketball Championship, it was announced Thursday by Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.
