Former Oklahoma State tennis player Erin Koenig joined the Tritons as the new head coach of the Eckerd College women's tennis team in January of 2007.
Koenig, who comes to St. Petersburg after working at the Bollettieri Tennis School in the IMG Academy in Bradenton for the last two years is now in charge of two teams that will undergo a complete rebuild from the squads that finished 2006 in the regional round of the NCAA Tournament and in the Top-10 in the NCAA.
Koenig, a native of Edmond, Oklahoma, has significant knowledge when it comes to the hard courts. After graduating from Santa Fe High School in her hometown she went on to Stillwater where she was a member of the Oklahoma State University women's tennis team from 1999 until 2004.
While playing for the Cowgirls, Koenig was a member of the 2001 and 2003 Big XII Championship winning teams and she also participated in the NCAA Tournament from 2000 through 2003. Consistently holding a Top-50 national team ranking she also claimed the Big XII Doubles Championship while at OSU.
"I have big shoes to fill because Coach Dei has set such a high standard," Koenig said. "The one advantage in having to build a team almost from scratch is that Eckerd Tennis will get a fresh start. My goal is to build a program that is a positive and vital part of the Eckerd community and an integral part of the growth of the tennis student athletes."
