Senior Justin Van Deinse surprised himself and his team mates at this weekend’s SAISA Singlehanded Championships by finishing in 5th place overall. The senior driver decided a week ago to give the event a shot and rewarded himself with the Tritons best finish at the Conference Championship. Triton Sailors Learn to be Patient on the Charles River

This weekend the Tritons traveled to the Hatch Brown Intersectional regatta hosted by MIT and Boston University. The group consisted of three teams who battled out on the Charles River in Boston. The location is a traditionally difficult venue to sail at with the variable conditions. Sailing on the Charles River has many key factors to keep in mind while competing and the Tritons certainly found that out with a 17th place finish.

The Charles River is known for its tricky, shifty breeze where every race is anyone's race. The Triton's were treated to the tough mental conditions of flat water and shifty winds all weekend at the Hatch Brown Regatta, hosted by MIT/BU. This event also features a 3rd Division and includes the sailing of MIT's famed Tech Dinghies for all or part of the regatta. At points during the event, Eckerd displayed some of last years mid-season form and finished in the mix of the leaders, but it was not enough to keep the Tritons inside of the top 10.

The South Points series continued this past weekend with the Triton sailors crossing the state of Florida to sail on Lake Virginia at Rollins College. The first Intersectional for the Tritons is in the books and it certainly a not the result the seniors wish to remember. Three days of practice and shifty winds on Lake Mascoma in Enfield, NH proved to be too much for the team to handle during their early season opener. After a tough weekend, the Tritons will be looking to shuffle their line up in hopes of finding more speed and better results in the weeks to come.

Freshmen Tritons Win at South Points #1 Regatta

The Tritons opened up the 2005-2006 season this past weekend by sending 2 teams comprised of all freshmen to the first South Points Regatta of the fall. The freshmen made the most of their opportunity and displayed the ability to be consistent and recover from mistakes, to finish the regatta a top the leader board. Senior Captain Maddy Eustis keeps Women's Team on track at National Championships

Sailing in her final college sailing event, Senior Captain Maddy Eustis saved the best for last. In an event that had a wide range of conditions and tested the sailors' patience with the wind, Eustis managed to put it together for a solid performance in B Division and keep Eckerd in range of the top 10. Sailing with Junior Allison Cribbs 06', the 2 ladies began to get on track on Day 2 of the 3 day event and string together a series of consistent top finishes.

Triton Team Racing Team Finishes Top 10 at Nationals

The Eckerd College Sailing Team headed back to Annapolis on October 16th & 17th to compete in the annual Navy Fall Intersectional. Twenty teams fielding over 120 competitors gathered at the Academy for what turned out to be the toughest regatta of the fall season. Tritons A division was led by Kellen Bernard, Tina Irwin and Katja Riise while DJ Driscoll and Lauren Fisher sailed B division. Preparing for the ICSA Singlehand Nationals the following weekend was Peter Stanton in C division (Laser). Rounding out the Triton army was Justin VanDeinse sailing D division (Laser).

Tritons Qualify for ICSA Team Race Nationals

The Triton Sailing Team traveled to USF this past weekend to compete in the South Atlantic Team Racing Championship. Skippers Carson Turowski, Peter Stanton, Kellen Bernard, and DJ Driscoll paired up with teammates Maddy Eustis, Leo Calzadilla, Tina Irwin, Nick Moraski, Kyle Eaton, Lauren Fisher and Karen Pickering for an exciting and windy battle on Tampa Bay. Eckerd sailed a total of 28 races to edge out USF (5 out of 8 races) for second place and a berth to the ICSA North American Team Racing Championship to be held at the Columbia River Gorge (near Portland, Oregon) May 30 through June 1. This weekend, the Tritons will travel to Charleston and compete in the SAISA Spring District Championship in hopes to qualify for the ICSA North American Dinghy Championship.

The Eckerd Tritons competed in the South Points two regatta at University of Florida this weekend. With shifty winds ranging from five to fifteen knots, six races in two fleets were completed. Triton Sailors Strike Back in Charleston!

On February 21st and 22nd, the Eckerd College Sailing Team traveled to Charleston, South Carolina to compete in the annual Spring Intersectional Regatta. Eighteen teams from six national districts competed in Charleston's fleet of 420 sailboats.

February 14th and 15th was the weekend that the Mendelblatt Team Race was sailed at University of South Florida. Five teams from 3 national districts competed in USF's fleet of 12 FJ's. Sailing for the Tritons were skippers Carson Turowski, DJ Driscoll and Peter Stanton paired with crews Kristen Mitchell, Mary Farrell, Lauren Fisher, Kyle Eaton and Nick Moraski.

Women's Sailing Team Builds Confidence in Charleston

The Eckerd College Women's sailing team recently traveled to the College of Charleston to compete in Charleston Spring Women's Intersectional Regatta. The cold temperature and rain didn't discourage the Lady Tritons as they suited up in their warm gear and headed out onto the water. Sailing in A division was sophomores Lindsey Nahmias and Leo Calzadillo while B division was led by junior Maddy Eustis and sophomore Allison Cribbs.

Eckerd Dominates First Team Racing Series of the Season

On Sunday, February 8th, the Triton Sailing Team won seven consecutive races to win the first district team race series of the season. Triton Sailors Finish Second in Season Opener

On Saturday, February 7th, the Tritons hosted the first spring season regatta with eleven teams competing from seven schools. The Eckerd Varsity Team consisting of sophomores Lindsey Nahmias and Leo Calzadilla and freshmen Zach Mason and Bryony Muniz-Dube trailed USF throughout the series by a narrow margin in the blustery conditions.

Sailing Team Ends Fall Season Nationally Ranked

On December 12th, the Intercollegiate Sailing Association of North America released the Sailing World Magazine National Rankings for the end of the Fall season. This accomplishment marks the first time all year that both the Eckerd College Women's and Co-ed Sailing Teams have been ranked simultaneously. The co-ed team sailed to victory in the South Atlantic District Championship while the Women's team finished second; both qualifying for the Atlantic Coast Championship last month.

The Eckerd College Women’s Sailing Team traveled to the Naval Academy in
Annapolis to compete in the Navy Fall Women’s Regatta. On Saturday, the
weather was chilly for the Florida girls with winds of 10 to 15 knots out of
the Northeast. Junior Maddy Eustis and sophomore Allison Cribbs sailed
420's in A division, sophomore Lindsey Nahmias and senior Karen Pickering
sailed FJ's in B division while sophomore Mary Farrell sailed Laser Radial's
in C division.

Sloop Sailors Lose Tie-Breaker for District Championship Honors

On Saturday, October 11, the Triton Sloop Sailing Team headed back to the
College of Charleston for the South Atlantic District Sloop Championship.
Coming off a strong fourth place finish at the T.S. Stern Intersectional,
the Tritons were determined to show the South Atlantic district that they
were the team to watch out for. With light, shifty winds in the morning,
Eckerd found the groove on the right side of the course, controlling the
fleet and winning the first 2 races.

The Triton Keelboat Sailing Team consisting of Kevin Dooley '05, DJ Driscoll '06 and Peter Stanton '06 traveled to Charleston this past weekend to compete in the first of 3 "big boat" regattas this fall season. The Tritons finished a close 4th place out of 8 teams with the US Naval Academy taking top honors by 6 points overall.

Triton Sailors Take Top 3 Finishes at South Points #2 Regatta

On Saturday, September 13th, thirteen Triton Sailors traveled to USF’s Bayboro Campus to compete in the SAISA South Points #2 Regatta. The Eckerd Varsity Team dominated both ‘A’ and ‘B’ divisions with a combined total of 12 points to take top team honors. Placing second was Eckerd’s Co-ed JV Team with 24 points closely followed by Eckerd’s Women’s Team with 31 points.

Freshmen Triton Sailors Take Second at Home Season Opener

On Sunday, September 7th, the Triton Sailing Team hosted the first intercollegiate regatta of the season. Six teams representing three schools competed in beautiful sailing conditions on Boca Ciega Bay just off the shores of Eckerd College. Winds were shifty out of the west/northwest at 8-10 knots with clear skies and temperature near 90 degrees.
