Moshi / Mt. Kilimanjaro

A & K drivers transported the team from the lodge to Mt. Kilimanjaro's Marangu Gate. The actual hike began at the park gate (6,000 feet) continuing 5.5 miles up to Mandara Hut (9,000 feet) near the upper edge of the forest line. The hike took approximately 6 hours starting off in rain forest vegetation, then opening up to giant heather. Accommodations at Mandara Hut were in wooden A-frame huts that slept 4 to 8. The size of Eckerd's team required that we stay in a three-room concrete building, designed for larger groups, made up of two 10-person rooms and one 4-person room.)
