My name is Sarah, and I am here to help you learn if our beautiful liberal arts college is the right fit for you. I graduated from Eckerd in 2018 with my Bachelor of Arts in History<\/a> and East Asian Studies<\/a>, and a minor in Japanese<\/a>. In 2021, I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Creative Writing from the University of Denver. After spending four years working for the Walt Disney Company in theme parks such as EPCOT, I am excited to return to Eckerd as your admission counselor!<\/p>\n

Eckerd became my home for four years, where the creative and open-minded community of students and faculty taught me to \u201cthink outside\u201d and be my authentic self. Our study abroad<\/a> opportunities enabled me to study in Japan on two separate trips, first during a language-immersion winter term, and later during a summer research program focused on environmental studies<\/a>. I developed lasting relationships with several of my professors, who encouraged and supported me through opportunities like the Ford Apprentice Scholars Program<\/a>, which is a two-year course of study involving summer research to prepare students for graduate school and a career in college or university teaching. I could not speak more highly of the mentorship system we have here at Eckerd.<\/p>\n

Outside of academics, I developed my hobbies and gained friends through club activities by joining the EC Riptides Dance Team and co-founding an Avatar: The Last Airbender<\/em> club called \u201cHuman Aangsperience\u201d (a fun play on our first-year general education course, Human Experience<\/a>). Through support from ECOS<\/a> and Campus Activities, we were even able to bring Dante Basco, a voice actor from Avatar: The Last Airbender<\/em>, to campus for an event about his life and experiences as an Asian American in the entertainment industry. You never know what you might discover and achieve on this campus!<\/p>\n
