Whether in-person or virtually, Career Services offers professional events and programs throughout the year for students at all stages of their career development. The following are a small selection of what has been offered in years past and updated to a virtual format:
Autumn Term: College to Career
This annual event introduces first-year students to the Career Services team and the office’s services, with an emphasis on the on-campus job search and choosing a major. New students learn about simple steps they can take during the next four years to ensure success after graduation.
Students who have completed internships teach other students about how to make the most of the experience. They discuss employers, learning outcomes, application processes and professional development.
Career Contacts and Career Mentors
The Career Mentor Program and the Career Contacts Program pair students and recent graduates with seasoned alumni who can provide guidance during the transition from academia to the work world.
Throughout the year, Career Services hosts themed panels in partnership with alumni and academic departments. Previous speakers include writers, educators, scientists, business executives and government employees. Since Spring 2020, all professional panels have been moved online and are hosted via Zoom.
Senior Series: Money, Mimosas and Making It
During Spring Semester, Career Services hosts a series of programs to prepare graduating seniors for the job market, money management and life after Eckerd. Guest speakers include successful Eckerd alumni and local professionals.
Held in the summer at the end of Spring Semester, Career Camp is a non-credit, four-week professionalization program for current students and new graduates. Small groups meet twice-weekly with a Career Services team member to learn the ins and outs of career exploration, applications, interviews, and networking strategies.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 across fields and industries, Career Services developed Eckerd Always, a professionalization workshop for alumni whose jobs are impacted by the pandemic. In partnership with Alumni Engagement, Career Services leads alumni through resume and cover letter techniques and networking strategy.
