The Jim Crane Project is an initiative by Eckerd College in association with the College’s ongoing Intermezzo Campaign to complete construction of a new 33,000-square-foot Center for Visual Arts, scheduled to open in summer 2017.
The Jim Crane Project will honor the memory of Emeritus Professor Jim Crane, a founding faculty member who was the architect of the Visual Arts program at Eckerd College (then Florida Presbyterian College) and served as the first chair of the department for 30 years. The Project will support the Visual Arts at Eckerd for years to come through the dedication and establishment, respectively, of the following:
- the Jim Crane Painting Studio, a premier classroom overlooking Southshore Grove and Chapel Pond, with northeastern exposure and floor-to-ceiling windows to flood the space with natural light; and
- the Jim Crane Fund for the Visual Arts, an endowed fund in Jim’s memory to cover, in perpetuity, expenses related to bringing alumni artists to Eckerd to give lectures, workshops or exhibitions, and to reimburse related travel and shipping costs; and also, when necessary, to support the academic enhancement of the Visual Arts program at Eckerd by helping defray the cost of worthy thesis projects by seniors who have demonstrated financial need.
Gifts of $5,000 or more, payable over 5 years, to the Jim Crane Project qualify the donors as Arts Fellows.
