Donation Guidelines

Donations are gratefully accepted with the understanding that library staff determines which materials are appropriate to add to the collection and that no restrictions shall be placed on their use or disposition.

Items not added to the collection are donated, recycled, or made available to the campus community.

Because of the high cost of handling donated items, the library is very selective in accepting donations. If you have books or other materials that you would like to donate to the library, please observe the following guidelines:

All items should be clean and in good condition, free of odor, mold, water damage and infestation.

The library cannot accept the following:

  •         Books with handwriting and/or highlighting
  •         Magazines and professional journals
  •         Encyclopedias
  •         Textbooks over 3years old
  •         VHS tapes, audiocassettes, vinyl records, CD-ROMs

Donations given to the library are tax deductible. Donors will receive a receipt noting the number of titles donated.

Due to federal regulations the library is unable to assist with any type of appraisal on donations. Appraisals are the sole responsibility of the donor.

At this time, it is not possible for the library to pick up donations.

The library accepts donations Monday-Saturday between the hours of 9am and 5pm.

Please bring your donations in non-returnable boxes or bags.

Questions concerning donations may be directed to Library Director, Lisa Johnston, by emailing johnstln@eckerd.edu or calling 727-864-8206.
