But they soon learned they had both lived at the Sigma complex \u201cand probably crossed paths countless times.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hamilton divided the students into four groups and appointed a student to lead each one. Taylor was the leader of a group that included Trevor. \u201cThe first day, we were making small talk and it came up that Trevor is from Texas,\u201d Taylor says. She grew up visiting family in San Angelo Texas, about an hour from Midland.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column column_padding=&#8221;no-extra-padding&#8221; column_padding_position=&#8221;all&#8221; background_color_opacity=&#8221;1&#8243; background_hover_color_opacity=&#8221;1&#8243; width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][image_with_animation image_url=&#8221;1827&#8243; alignment=&#8221;&#8221; animation=&#8221;Fade In&#8221;][vc_column_text]<i>&#8220;Taylor Rice \u201816 and Trevor Sutherland \u201817 with Trevor&#8217;s dad, Tom Sutherland in London.&#8221;<\/i>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=&#8221;in_container&#8221; scene_position=&#8221;center&#8221; text_color=&#8221;dark&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; overlay_strength=&#8221;0.3&#8243;][vc_column column_padding=&#8221;no-extra-padding&#8221; column_padding_position=&#8221;all&#8221; background_color_opacity=&#8221;1&#8243; background_hover_color_opacity=&#8221;1&#8243; width=&#8221;1\/1&#8243;][vc_column_text]\u201cTurns out, his dad was from the same town,\u201d Taylor says. They exchanged family names and soon discovered an amazing coincidence: \u201cOur dads grew up next door neighbors!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not only that, \u201cour families knew each other and were neighbors for years. My uncle and Trevor&#8217;s aunt were very close friends growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before they returned to Eckerd, Trevor&#8217;s dad, Tom Sutherland, visited London and had dinner with the students on the trip. \u201cHe told me stories about my dad, uncles and even grandparents,\u201d Taylor says.<\/p>\n<p>When he returned, Trevor\u2019s dad called Taylor\u2019s dad, Jeff Rice.
