The approach students take uses 3D imaging to depict the sensory areas of the insects\u2019 brains\u2014the parts that recount their learning.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers in the <a href=\"https:\/\/beelab.eckerd.edu\/\">Honey Bee Neurobiology Lab<\/a> essentially observe naturally occurring changes in the bees\u2019 brain chemistry and how much exposure they had to chemicals, such as imidacloprid, a common insecticide that acts on the central nervous system of insects.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=&#8221;full_width_content&#8221; Jacob started working with Dobrin through the E-STEM program the summer of Jacob\u2019s first year at Eckerd and has kept up with the Bee Lab ever since.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was really great to get lab experience so early in my college career, and it gave me a connection to a professor I otherwise wouldn\u2019t have met,\u201d Jacob explains. \u201cDr. Dobrin has been an excellent mentor to me for all things research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to leading Jacob through the Bee Lab, Dobrin worked with him to formulate his research project and nominated Jacob to be a <a href=\"\/ford\/\">Ford Scholar<\/a>.
