The experience, he says, was overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were very Southern, very Christian and very liberal,\u201d Galloway says with a laugh. \u201cI only knew God as an expansive love, inclusive of all. I\u2019m very fortunate for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even so, Galloway spent much of his young adulthood convinced he did not want to follow in his parents\u2019 footsteps. \u201cThe joke growing up was always, \u2018Oh gosh, no, I would never want to be a minister,\u2019\u201d he says, explaining he had a firsthand look at the realities of church life.<\/p>\n

That certainty followed Galloway to <\/span>Davidson College<\/span>, where, rather than pursuing religious studies or a pre-ministry track, he majored in history. Looking back, he says the experience reinforced the importance of mission-driven organizations and the strong sense of community that can emerge when people rally around a shared purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing nonprofit work taught me is that when people feel connected to a mission and to one another, that creates something lasting,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Later, while attending First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte<\/a>, Galloway found himself becoming deeply involved in congregational life once again\u2014\u201cabout as immersed as you can be without being the minister,\u201d he says. During that time, he also began reflecting more seriously on the kind of career and life he wanted to build for himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized I wasn\u2019t just looking for the next job,\u201d he says. \u201cI was looking for a vocation.\u201dThat realization led him to Princeton Theological Seminary<\/a>, where he earned his Master of Divinity<\/a> in 2017. During his time there, he served as moderator of the student body and completed ministry internships in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He later served churches in Raleigh and Charlotte, North Carolina, before becoming pastor of First Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg<\/a>, Florida, where he led worship and helped guide the downtown congregation\u2019s community outreach and spiritual life initiatives.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=”full_width_content” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” top_padding=”32″ text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” row_position_desktop=”default” row_position_tablet=”inherit” row_position_phone=”inherit” overflow=”visible” advanced_gradient_angle=”0″ overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none” shape_type=”” gradient_type=”default”][vc_column column_padding=”no-extra-padding” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”right” flex_gap_desktop=”10px” column_element_direction_desktop=”default” column_element_spacing=”default” desktop_text_alignment=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_backdrop_filter=”none” column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” column_position=”default” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1\/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” animation_type=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid” column_padding_type=”default” gradient_type=”default”][vc_column_text css=”” text_direction=”default”]Across those roles, Galloway found himself especially drawn to working with young adults, particularly those navigating questions about identity, faith, and belonging.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think asking difficult questions is actually an important part of faith,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s when you stop questioning altogether that we run into problems.\u201d<\/p>\n

As chaplain and head of the Center for Spiritual Life, Galloway will help guide Eckerd\u2019s interfaith programming and spiritual life initiatives, which include everything from Protestant worship services and yoga to Muslim prayer groups and Buddhist meditation. Under his leadership, he hopes the Center continues serving as both a resource and a gathering space\u2014one where students from all backgrounds feel comfortable asking difficult questions, building relationships, and exploring what gives their lives meaning.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo many times, we believe that if we are explicit about what we believe or who we are, that will make us exclusive,\u201d Galloway says. \u201cBut I think being open about who we are and what we believe creates space for other people to do the same.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
