Her mobile operation sat on beaches and outside carnivals in San Diego, her hometown, over summers there. Probert calls herself a \u201cserial hobbyist,\u201d having tried skydiving, rock climbing and playing the standing harp.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt Eckerd, I really made a strong, conscious effort to not limit myself to just art or just business,\u201d she says.<\/span><\/p>\n

As an Eckerd student, she learned to sail and tried things that didn\u2019t fit her own image of herself. She realized that there\u2019s no reason to limit herself to this preconceived vision.<\/span><\/p>\n

Probert is now the curator at <\/span>Duncan McClellan Gallery<\/span><\/a>, where she\u2019s developed her practice in blown and carved glass. In 2023, she launched her art business Moonlit Creations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

When Probert came to Eckerd, she was not planning to add business management to her studies. Her mentor, Associate Professor of Management Jennifer Miner Knippen, Ph.D.<\/a>, told Probert she has a mind for business and encouraged her to try it. She double majored\u2014but it wasn\u2019t so easy, Probert says.<\/p>\n

Being an artist has always been in the cards for Probert. As a kid, she drew caricatures at her sister\u2019s soccer games. She had a booth on the beach and made Play-Doh pencil toppers, selling them for around one dollar. At the end of the day, she had enough money to buy a snow cone.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always just had the drive to do that. But there was a while where people just kept telling me, \u2018oh, being an artist is hard,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cNever my parents, actually. My parents were very supportive.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her parents, who both work in the accounting industry, bought Probert her first easel when she was 10 years old. She remembers always having art supplies, whether it was paint or sandstone to chip into.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a time where I thought I wanted to be a lawyer, which I hear from a lot of artists,\u201d Probert says.<\/p>\n

Though it sounds counterintuitive, she says there\u2019s a parallel between the creative spirit and problem-solving. I just kept showing up,\u201d Probert says.<\/p>\n

Some of Probert\u2019s recent work was displayed at the FloridaRAMA Gallery<\/a>. She exhibited the first glass vessel she blew herself. Probert used colored resin to depict a tiger\u2019s face and a small hidden butterfly.<\/p>\n

She draws much of her inspiration from nature, even gathering natural materials to create art. SWARM<\/a> is her installation with over 300 real honey bees encased in clear resin and suspended from gold wire. The project began in 2022 when she noticed the number of dead bees she came across in daily life and she asked herself what this meant for bee populations. The original installation was a part of her thesis at Eckerd and now she has raised money for The Nature Conservancy<\/a> through SWARM.<\/p>\n

Probert recalls the experiences she has had across mediums of her work. As a henna tattoo artist in San Diego, she had intense conversations.<\/p>\n

One woman\u2019s husband had recently passed away, and they had long planned to get matching tattoos. She wanted to get a henna tattoo of what she and her husband planned to get, and it became an emotional session, Probert says. She once had a private house appointment with a woman who had a double mastectomy due to cancer. Probert drew flowers across her chest.<\/p>\n

While Probert has explored a wide range of art mediums and business ventures, some things have remained the same since she was a child. She has always been a \u201cdo-er.\u201d She has always been internally motivated.<\/p>\n
