Still, witnessing firsthand the pervasive culture of human trafficking convinced Tiffany that she\u2019d love the chance to return and study the difference between the plight of Cambodian children and other impoverished youths.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asianetwork.org\/programs\/freeman-student-faculty-program\/\">ASIANetwork Freeman Student-Faculty Fellowship<\/a> (SFF), she will get her chance. Human Development <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eckerd.edu\/human-development\/faculty\/janus\/\">Professor Nancy Janus<\/a> selected Tiffany and three other students\u2014Alicia Censabella, Jamie Myre and Alicen Nico\u2014to be her research partners for a 21-day trip to \u201cdiscover factors that may be impeding efforts to reduce child sex trafficking in Cambodia,\u201d according to the project proposal.<\/p>\n<p>Janus received word of the $24,400 award on Feb. 5. \u201cI was actually watching a movie in my friend\u2019s dorm room with another student who will be a part of the fellowship when [Professor Janus] called,\u201d Tiffany remembered. \u201cI said, \u2018Don\u2019t play with my emotions, Nancy.\u2019 I was so excited!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ASIANetwork, a consortium of more than 170 North American colleges, strives to strengthen the role of Asian Studies in undergraduate liberal arts education in an increasingly interdependent world. The SFF was awarded to seven schools this year, Janus said. This was the professor\u2019s second time applying for this specific competitive program.
