Two things drew Carly Naundorff from Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania\u2014near those famous Pocono Mountains\u2014to the sunny shores of Eckerd College in Florida: outdoor research<\/a> and study abroad<\/a> opportunities.<\/h3>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row type=”full_width_content” full_screen_row_position=”middle” column_margin=”default” column_direction=”default” column_direction_tablet=”default” column_direction_phone=”default” scene_position=”center” top_padding=”32″ text_color=”dark” text_align=”left” row_border_radius=”none” row_border_radius_applies=”bg” overlay_strength=”0.3″ gradient_direction=”left_to_right” shape_divider_position=”bottom” bg_image_animation=”none” shape_type=””][vc_column column_padding=”padding-2-percent” column_padding_tablet=”inherit” column_padding_phone=”inherit” column_padding_position=”right” column_element_spacing=”default” background_color_opacity=”1″ background_hover_color_opacity=”1″ column_shadow=”none” column_border_radius=”none” column_link_target=”_self” gradient_direction=”left_to_right” overlay_strength=”0.3″ width=”1\/1″ tablet_width_inherit=”default” tablet_text_alignment=”default” phone_text_alignment=”default” bg_image_animation=”none” border_type=”simple” column_border_width=”none” column_border_style=”solid”][vc_column_text]As the recent recipient of the Fulbright Canada Mitacs Globalink Internship<\/a>, Carly will be getting even more than she had hoped for.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have an interest in wildlife biology and ecology, and this internship will help me get to explore a little bit more of that realm,\u201d said the junior environmental studies<\/a> and biology<\/a> major.<\/p>\n

This summer, Carly will be working for 10 to 12 weeks (between May and August) on a project with a supervisor and postdoctoral fellow at Saint Mary\u2019s University in Halifax, Nova Scotia<\/a>, on \u201cCharacterizing habitat of lichens on trees at forest edges in Nova Scotia, Canada.\u201d The program allows eligible juniors and seniors from accredited colleges and universities in the U.S. to enter Canada for research purposes.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s currently scheduled as a remote internship due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, but it will be Carly\u2019s first time working with plant research. That was my first time out of the country, and it was an amazing experience,” Carly said.<\/p>\n

The trip ignited a fire to travel and do research, so she began collecting information about the postgraduate U.S. Fulbright Program when Robinson alerted her to this undergraduate opportunity. Excitedly, Carly applied but didn\u2019t hear any news for six months. It turns out the notifications were delayed as organizers tried to adjust plans in response to the ongoing pandemic. When she finally got the good news in the first week of March, she was alone in her dorm room.<\/p>\n
