Successful applicants like Sophia, an aspiring marine wildlife veterinarian, credit their Eckerd research experiences with helping them stand out. \u201cI was awarded the <a href=\"\/academics\/really-excel\/\">First-Year Research Associateship<\/a>, so I was able to start working for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eckerd.edu\/news\/blog\/eckerd-receives-grant-to-reduce-plastics\/\">microplastics research project<\/a> as soon as I started college here at Eckerd,\u201d Sophia said. \u201cThis gave me a lot of experience in the lab, and I even got the chance to participate in research cruises to collect data.
