Change is not supposed to be easy. We have worked hard; we have differed on occasion and reached agreement on even more. We must be proud of the accomplishments we have achieved together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eckerd College <a href=\"\/president\/bot\/\">Board of Trustees<\/a> Chair Ian Johnson \u201989 <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/19gmowTw9q7GdtZeCJQ8rVosrynnKZbHWuub3EdrsGWw\/edit?usp=sharing\">also communicated the Board\u2019s support of Fern\u00e1ndez\u2019s decision<\/a> and well wishes for his future in a letter to the campus community. \u201cWe will miss President Fern\u00e1ndez\u2019s passion, energy and vision for achieving excellence in a <a href=\"\/about\/liberal-arts\/\">liberal arts setting<\/a>. We will also miss his humor, wit and intelligence,\u201d Johnson wrote. \u201cMany of us are honored to have experienced his friendship. We wish him the best in whatever he chooses to do next and are certain he will continue to achieve great things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Trustees expects to meet next week to appoint an interim president for the coming academic year and to begin its planning to conduct a national search for a new president.
