3+3 Accelerated FSU Law Degree Program

The 3+3 Accelerated Law Program provides the opportunity to qualified Eckerd students with a commitment to academic excellence to seamlessly pursue a rigorous academic program including the completion of an Eckerd B.A. or B.S. degree and a Florida State University College of Law (Florida State Law) J.D. degree in six rather than the normal seven years. Stetson University College of Law

Any PEL student in any major with a 3.3 GPA at the time of application and an LSAT score at the 50th percentile or better is eligible for automatic admission to Stetson University’s law program and to receive at least $15,000 a year in scholarship for each year of the program, assuming the student remains in good academic standing. Students with higher GPAs and LSAT scores may be eligible for higher scholarship levels. Stetson’s College of Law offers concentrations in Elder Law, Environmental Law, International Law, and Social Justice Advocacy and is well-known in the field of Higher Education Law.

Nova Southeastern University’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business offers a special tuition rate to Eckerd College graduates and employees for evening, weekend, and online master’s business degree programs. Beneficiaries may save up to $6,550 on published tuition rates (depending on course formats). International education and off-campus opportunities

Eckerd College is committed to international education and other off-campus opportunities for its students. The college sponsors study trips to various locations and operates the London Study Centre, which is staffed and supervised by Eckerd faculty.

PEL trips have included travel to England, Italy, Greece, France, China, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Bahamas, and various U.S. destinations such as Washington, D.C., New York City, and New Mexico.

Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)

Founded in 1975 and active on 1400 colleges and universities in 43 countries, SIFE (now known as Enactus) is a non-profit organization which works in partnership with business and higher education to provide students an opportunity to make a difference and to develop leadership, teamwork, and presentation and communication skills.

The SIFE organization is supported by over 300 of the Fortune 500 companies such as Microsoft, Pepsico, Accenture, Campbell’s, Dell, Liberty Mutual, Glaxo, KPMG, Johnson & Johnson, Novartis, Sherwin Williams, and many more. In 2012, SIFE changed its name to Enactus (ENtrepreneurial ACTion US) to reaffirm its long-standing commitment to using entrepreneurial action as a catalyst for progress.

At Eckerd College, The course SIFE (IB 410) meets the Senior Seminar requirement in the PEL management discipline. Since 1998, students have participated in the SIFE USA regional and national competitions. Over the years, Eckerd College students have won numerous Championship awards in this highly competitive event.

The SIFE Competition

The regional and national competitions are some of the largest collegiate events in the country.  SIFE teams from more than 400 campuses compete against each other and their projects are judged based on effectiveness, creativity, innovation, and impact on people’s lives. During their presentations, teams demonstrate their abilities in utilizing resources and documenting activities. Business leaders from Fortune 500 companies judge student service learning projects. Following the competition, students are invited to a private reception hosted by a sponsoring company to discuss networking , employment,  and internship  opportunities.

SIFE leadership recognition

Dr. Naveen K. Malhotra serves as advisor for the Eckerd College SIFE/EnactusTeam. Dr. Malhotra was named the Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in recognition of his leadership and support of the SIFE program at Eckerd College.  The City of St. Petersburg has honored Dr. Malhotra with a key to the city and the Eckerd College SIFE team, as The Sunshine Ambassadors. The City Council also issued  a proclamation declaring  November, 13 “Eckerd College SIFE Day” in the city of St. Petersburg.  In February 2007, he was appointed as the first occupant of the Tom and Mary James Professorship in Finance.
