In honor of its 40th Anniversary, ASPEC presents: Arts Day, Literature Day, Science Day, and Medical Day. All events are open to the public. Although there is no charge, registration is required so that we may arrange seating and provisioning. Click the links below to register.

Fantastic ASPEC Ekphrastic (Arts Day)

Description: Ekphrastic poetry explores art. Using a rhetorical device known as ekphrasis, the poet engages with a painting, drawing, sculpture, or other form of visual art. This program is a live art exhibit of ASPEC artists’ work, described in literary form by ASPEC writers and performed by ASPEC actors.

Celebrating 40 Years of Literature (Literature Day)

Description: Literature has evolved during the past four decades. Today’s speakers describe world literature in 1982, discuss the 40-year evolution of Banned Books Week, chronicle an explosion of interest in fantasy literature, and explore the lives of published writers. You’ll also hear from some of the best ASPEC writers, then and now. Join our speakers to enjoy their insights into contemporary developments and changes over the last 40 years.
Additional information: Light lunch and snacks will be provided along with a wine and cheese reception after the program.

What Science is Telling Us Now (Science Day)

Description: ASPEC presents its 17th Science Day. Phenomenal advances in both the acquisition and analysis of data have allowed us to probe the vast reaches of the universe; explore the incredibly small quantum fabric of sub-atomic matter; observe and even manipulate the myriad of molecular interactions that make our living cells function; diagnose and treat various diseases; and learn the instruction codes our parents transmit to us for life. Join our five speakers to explore these spectacular breakthroughs in science over the last 40 years.
