Spring Break 2010

The Office of Service Learning is gearing up for our Alternative Spring Breaks trips. This year we have 15 fantastic service projects, going across the United States, South America, and even to the United Kingdom. Interested to serve others and create a bond with a new group of friends during a drug and alcohol free week? Come to our spring break info session February 8th at 6pm in Fox Hall. You can get more information and your application sheet there. Applications are due February 18th by 12pm.

Spring Break 2010

Honduras
Volunteer at agencies that are assisting children in beautiful La Ceiba.
Cost--approx. $475

Puerto Rico
This group will work with an environmental/sustainability organization in the jungle. Come practice your Spanish!
Cost--approx. $425

Belfast, Northern Ireland
This team will work with groups seeking reconciliation following a period of conflict known as "The Troubles"
Cost--approx. $600

Eastern Kentucky/Appalachia
Travel to the Appalachian region of Kentucky to work in one of the poorest parts of the US.
Cost--approx. $200

Morocco
Spend the week in Africa working for Islamic-based NGOs.
Cost--approx. $750

Trinidad
Travel to the Caribbean to volunteer for a yet-to-be determined project!
Cost--approx $500

Immokalee, FL
This group will work with migrant workers and for migrant worker's rights here in Florida.
Cost--approx. $75

Nicaragua
Volunteer to fight poverty in both the city of Managua and also for a few days in a rural area.
Cost--approx $520

Peru
Join Prof. Olivier Debure & Erik Siegel up in the Andes working with schoolchildren.
Cost--approx. $550

San Francisco
Do service and learn about Buddhism at the Zen Center in beautiful, hippy-dippy San Francisco.
Cost--approx. $425

Costa Rica
Volunteer at a skateboard park designed to get at-risk kids and teens off the street. This project may be construction-oriented.
Cost--approx $475

Washington, DC
Tackle issues of AIDS and the city in our nation's capital.
Cost--approx. $250

Panama
Prof. Nancy Janus leads this group to work at the largest orphanage in the country and see the great canal in the "Crossroads of the Americas".
Cost--approx. $500

Guatemala
Volunteer at a non-profit organic farm in the beautiful countryside of Guatemala.
Cost--approx. $475

Argentina
Go way south to South America to work with NGOs that are addressing poverty and women's empowerment.
Cost--approx. $650

Costs for all trips include everything - airfare, food, transportation, and lodging. Costs may fluctuate slightly. Many will actually go lower. If you are interested, be sure to attend the Spring Break Info Session on Monday February, 8th at 6:00 pm in Fox Hall.
