Fiske Guide 2012 Recognizes Eckerd for Strength in Business, Environmental Studies and International Studies
For the second consecutive year, Eckerd College has been included in the revised and updated edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012. Eckerd was recognized on three of Fiske's lists for its strength in these areas: Small Colleges and Universities Strong in Business (one of only two Florida schools); and, the popular interdisciplinary majors of Environmental Studies and International Studies (only Florida school on both lists).
Fiske's profile on Eckerd combines student comments on academics and campus life. "Eckerd College is renowned for its marine science program," says a student. "The close proximity to the water gives [students in] this major a great amount of hands-on, close-up experience." A psychology major notes that, "The faculty here are amazing. They are here for us and they want us to do well." A junior shares, "Eckerd is the place where your dreams can become realities and where new dreams can take flight."
Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, one of the top independent voices in college admissions, Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012 is a selective, subjective, and systematic look at 300-plus of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain.
Colleges featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2012 were selected with several broad principles in mind, beginning with academic quality. In addition, an effort was made to include achieve geographic diversity and a balance of public and private schools. Special efforts were made to include a good selection of four types of institutions that seem to be enjoying special popularity at present: engineering and technical schools, those with a religious emphasis, those with an environmental focus, and those located along the Sunbelt.
