Bill Evers '04 Drafted by Tampa Bay Devil Rays
On Tuesday, June 8, 2004, Eckerd College graduate Bill Evers, Jr. became the ninth player in Eckerd College history to be selected at the annual Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft. Evers was picked in the 35th round (1035 overall) by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Evers' draft selection comes on the heels of a stellar senior season, during which the six-foot-two New Port Richey native led the Tritons with eight home runs. He was the recipient of the 2004 Jim Harley Award for Eckerd College Male Athlete of the Year and the 2004 Triton Award presented to the top athlete on each team.
