Eckerd College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team Competes at National Level
The Eckerd College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team returned to St. Petersburg after participating in the SIFE USA National Competition held May 13-15, 2008 in Chicago. The event was the final round of competition in the United States, with the winner advancing to the SIFE International competition held in Singapore. Although Eckerd did not make it into the final round of competition, the team members gave a very strong presentation and were pleased to be in the top 143 of 1,500 competing schools. The 7-member team was led by Professor of Management and Finance Naveen Malhotra.
Students in Free Enterprise encourages students to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it to real-life situations, and to use their knowledge to better their communities through educational outreach projects. The Eckerd College SIFE team was represented by a combination of residential and Program for Experienced Learners students: Gabrielle Arcangeli '08, Adam Bottie '08, Linda Rendleman '08, Lesly White '08, David Schanzer '08, and Stephanie Bowen '09.
Teams were judged on the effectiveness and depth of their projects during a 24-minute presentation and were evaluated on creativity and innovation, results of education programs, success in utilizing resources and documentation of activities. The Eckerd College SIFE team also met with the representatives of over 60 companies at a career fair to discuss job and internship opportunities.
The Eckerd College SIFE team expresses their appreciation:
We would like to thank Dr. Naveen Malhotra for his tireless efforts and guidance throughout the semester. In addition, we would like to thank the students from the Program for Experienced Learners who served both as students in their SIFE class and as mentors for the Residential SIFE program. Finally, the team thanks Campus Activities, Career Resources, Dean Jim Annarelli, and the countless other campus organizations for funding our trips to both Philadelphia and Chicago this year.
