Eckerd College was honored recently with five awards from District III of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), the professional organization for alumni relations, communications, fundraising, marketing, and related activities in higher education.
Chief Executive Leadership Award
Eckerd College President Donald R. Eastman III was awarded the Chief Executive Leadership Award, which recognizes the Chief Executive of a District III member institution for outstanding leadership and service in support of education. President Eastman received the award at the 2010 CASE District III Conference in Tampa, Florida, on February 23.
Bill Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award
Grover C. Wrenn '64, a successful entrepreneur and Vice Chairman of the Eckerd College Board of Trustees, was named the recipient of the Bill Franklin Volunteer of the Year Award. This award recognizes volunteers who assist in advancing the institution through fund-raising, alumni relations, and student recruitment, as well as the long-term effect of their overall volunteer contributions on the institution and education. Mr. Wrenn currently serves as the Chairman of Many Experiences, One Spirit: The Campaign for Eckerd College.
Award of Excellence - 50th Anniversary President's Report
The 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition of the President's Report and Report to Donors 2007-2008 earned an Award of Excellence in its category. The 148-page piece reflects on the College's founding in 1958; its early years; the five defining characteristics of the Eckerd experience - residential, global, spiritual, environmental and personal; and the alumni, parents, friends, students and others whose experiences gave shape to the spirit of Eckerd College.
Special Merit Award - Grand Celebration
A special merit award recognized the planning and execution of the Grand Celebration event to launch the Many Experiences, One Spirit Campaign in November 2008. The event, which celebrated Eckerd's 50th Anniversary and formally launched the College's $80 million capital Campaign, included an announcement of a $15 million gift to the Center for Molecular and Life Sciences, which is the centerpiece of the capital Campaign. The award entry included photographs, a narrative describing the event, the multi-media presentation shown at the event and print materials provided to guests.
Special Merit Award - Many Experiences, One Spirit Print Materials
CASE District III recognized the print materials prepared for the Campaign with another Special Merit Award. The most notable among the print materials is the Campaign case statement, which outlines the priorities of the Many Experiences, One Spirit Campaign. Other materials included a series of notecards featuring photos taken by a student photographer highlighting Campaign initiatives.
