SACS Reaffirms Eckerd College's Accreditation for Ten Years
Eckerd College's accreditation was recently reaffirmed for ten years by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Commission on Colleges. The formal action took place on June 23, 2011, at the SACS Commission on Colleges Board of Trustees meeting, which convenes semiannually.
"Like the sterling report Eckerd College received from the Commission's on-site visiting committee in November, Eckerd College's accreditation has no strings attached," said Dr. Donald R. Eastman III, President of Eckerd College, in a campus-wide communication. "This outcome results directly from your thoughtful participation in the accreditation reaffirmation process and the hard work we have done together these past ten years. Thank you for all you have done to bring Eckerd College to this high point."
During the Commission's November visit, SACS accepted the College's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) on reflective service-learning. Eckerd's QEP is designed to strengthen student learning by enhancing reflective activities, based on best practices, in credit-bearing service-learning courses for full-time residential students. As a result, Eckerd College met all SACS core requirements, comprehensive standards and QEP requirements.
