Eckerd College Welcomes Class of 2016, Autumn Term Begins with Ceremony of Lights
Eckerd College extends a warm welcome to the Members of the Class of 2016 and their families!
As the newest members of the College community, the Class of 2016 will embark on the Autumn Term experience, one of the traditions that sets Eckerd apart from other colleges and universities. For three weeks, the students will begin the process of orientation to college level academic work, familiarize themselves with the resources and opportunities available through the College, get to know one another and bond as a class, and explore what it means to be a member of Eckerd's family of scholars.
How have they been preparing for Eckerd?
This summer, each student was assigned the required reading, Strength in What Remains by Pulitzer prize-winning author Tracy Kidder. Mr. Kidder will be visiting Eckerd's campus September 17-21 as a visiting scholar-in-residence and as part of Eckerd's 2012-13 Presidential Events Series focused on service. He will deliver a public talk on Wednesday, Sept. 19, speak to the freshmen class about their summer reading as part of the Western Heritage in a Global Context course, as well as speak to the seniors about Mountains Beyond Mountains, another one of his books that has been assigned in the Quest for Meaning course.
What will they be studying?
Autumn Term course titles range from Middle East Politics and Film to Freud and the Modern Imagination. Click here for a full list of Autumn Term courses<
