Fiske Guide 2013 Recognizes Eckerd's Strengths in Business, Environmental Studies and International Studies
For a second year in a row, Eckerd College has been included in the revised and updated edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2013. Eckerd was also noted in the Guide for Preprofessionals for its "unusual strength in business," and on two lists Fiske defines as "today's hottest interdisciplinary majors: environmental studies and international studies."
Fiske's profile of Eckerd College is peppered with comments from Eckerd students. A psychology major notes that, "The faculty here are amazing. They are here for us and they want us to do well." Another explains, "Few schools are located right on the beach. It's Eckerd's paradise-like setting that seals the deal for most prospective students." One student describes her peers as "friendly, liberal, free-spirited and intelligent students who enjoy the great outdoors."
Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, one of the top independent voices in college admissions, Fiske Guide to Colleges 2013 is a selective, subjective, and systematic look at 300-plus of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, and Great Britain.
Colleges featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2013 were selected with several broad principles in mind, beginning with academic quality. In addition, an effort was made to achieve geographic diversity and a balance of public and private schools. Special efforts were made to include a good selection of four types of institutions that seem to be enjoying special popularity at present: engineering and technical schools, those with a religious emphasis, those with an environmental focus, and those located along the Sunbelt.
