Eckerd College Hosts Two VSA Florida Art Exhibits
Through mid-December, Eckerd will be hosting two art exhibits from VSA Florida, the State Organization on Arts and Disability whose mission is to create a society where people with disabilities can learn through, participate in and enjoy the arts. The opening receptions for both exhibits will be on Thursday, October 18.
In Armacost Library, the Modern Skills for Success Exhibition will be on display through December 13. This exhibition of 48 works was created by students in transition from high schools statewide. These students participated in the Modern Skills for Success residency program which helped them acquire skills to not only create a computer-generated image but could then be applied to future employment. Visitors will have the opportunity to try their skills using Splash, the same interactive art-making tool used by the students. Admission to the Library reception is free.
The second VSA exhibit will be on display in Lewis House through December 15. The Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College (ASPEC) have partnered with VSA Florida for an exhibition of paintings by adult artists with disabilities. A reception fee of $4 will be collected at the door. Exhibit hours vary - call ASPEC at 864-8834 prior to your visit.
Two overlapping receptions will be held for both exhibits on Thursday, October 18. Enjoy the paintings in Lewis House from 5-6:30 p.m., then stroll over to Armacost Library for the computer-generated artwork from 6-7:30 p.m. Golf carts will be available for those who need transportation from Lewis House to the Library.
