Eckerd College Welcomes Class of 2017, Autumn Term Begins with Ceremony of Lights
Eckerd College extends a warm welcome to the Members of the Class of 2017 and their families!
Ceremony of Lights 2012
As the newest members of the College community, the Class of 2017 will embark on the Autumn Term experience, one of the traditions that sets Eckerd apart from other colleges and universities. For three weeks, the students will begin the process of orientation to college level academic work, familiarize themselves with the resources and opportunities available through the College, get to know one another and bond as a class, and explore what it means to be a member of Eckerd's family of scholars.
How have they been preparing for Eckerd?
This summer, each student was assigned the required reading, Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity by Katherine Boo, Pulitzer prize-winning author and writer at The New Yorker. Ms. Boo will speak to the freshmen class about their summer reading as part of the Human Experience course on September 13. As the Class of 1968 Distinguished Visiting Scholar, Katherine Boo will deliver a public lecture on Thursday, September 12 at 7 p.m. in Fox Hall. All are welcome.
What will they be studying?
Autumn Term course titles range from "Unsp*k@ble Acts: Myth & Meaning in Greek Tragedy" to "Pinhole Photography." Click here for a full list of Autumn Term courses
