In an effort to strengthen the student learning experience and make continuous institutional improvements, Eckerd is undertaking a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) on Reflective Service-Learning. Implementing a QEP is part of the process for maintaining accreditation
by SACS, but is also an opportunity to explore and enhance a program that aligns with the college’s mission. The Reflective Service-Learning QEP (2010-2015) aims for a transformational impact on student learning outcomes in the areas of critical thinking and problem-solving, civic engagement and leadership, and openness to diversity. By embedding structured reflection activities into service-learning courses, students connect their service experience to the academic content, ultimately resulting in demonstrated improvement in the targeted student learning outcomes. Over the course of the QEP 15 faculty members will be selected as Faculty Fellows to develop and implement new reflective service-learning courses. Through careful assessment, outcomes are measured in order to document the impact of the Reflective Service-Learning QEP on student learning.
