AI and the Eckerd College mission
Eckerd College’s vision for Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is anchored to our mission as a liberal arts college and our cultivation of critical thinking, civic responsibility, and community.
When engaging with AI, the values that govern our interactions include an emphasis on human intelligence, human-centered relationships, and integrative approaches wherein technology supports and enhances, rather than replaces, human cognition.
We recognize the transformative potential of AI for higher education, while also recognizing the ethical, legal, environmental, and social challenges it poses.
Considerations
We are guided by five core considerations for all communities:
- Build practices of transparency and trust
- Promote ethical and responsible use
- Center student growth and learning
- Develop critical AI literacy among students, faculty, and staff
- Maintain high standards of integrity
