A Marketing major with a conscience

Prep for a business career you’ll feel good about

Businesses often talk about marketing using words like gross cash revenue and return on investment. While we at Eckerd believe in both, we prefer to focus on sustainable marketing principles that place equal emphasis on profit, people and the planet. Our marketing students apply what they learn in class and from internships here in Florida and across the country.

Get ready for almost anything

As consumers become more sophisticated and diverse, up-and-coming marketers can benefit from studying a variety of fields. As a Marketing major here, you’ll study everything from anthropology and environmental studies to international business, psychology and sociology.

Terrific internship and job options

Perched on the Gulf of Mexico side of Florida, St. Petersburg is known for financial services, manufacturing, medical technologies, information technology and marine sciences—all businesses that rely on marketing professionals to promote them.

In Their Own Words

“The Marketing major is a great way to connect creativity with principles of business. The courses provide great insights in the world of marketing.”

Beyond the Classroom

Every July, Eckerd students travel to Portugal to take part in the European Innovation Academy in Portugal. There they join over 500 students from 75 countries, forming five-person teams under the guidance of 40+ Silicon Valley mentors and speakers. Over the course of three weeks, each team works to create the next 10-billion-dollar idea. They pitch their ideas to a panel of Early Stage Investors at the program’s close.

Here’s what recent Marketing majors have been up to:

Eckerd now offers financial support for interns through the Brunner Endowed Internship Award.

Our Market Research class walks you through how to do secondary research and carry out focus groups and surveys to pinpoint growth opportunities for local businesses.

Recently, students created marketing plans for the Skyway Marina business district close to campus.

Service is more than just a buzzword here. It starts with Into the Streets during Autumn Term, when small groups of new students spend a few hours volunteering with youth programs, shelters and other local non-profits. All students are required to complete at least 40 hours of community service.
