Hi, I’m Sophia, a 2024 Eckerd College graduate, and I’m thrilled to now be an Admissions Counselor at the college that made such an incredible impact on my life. I love helping prospective students navigate the admissions process and sharing all the things that make Eckerd so special.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Science (biology track) and Animal Studies, while also taking several courses within the Environmental Studies discipline. During my time at Eckerd, I served as a Project Lead in the Frick Animal Behavior Lab, where I conducted behavioral research on dolphins, and as a Research Aide studying horseshoe crab cognition. I also had the incredible opportunity to spend a Winter Term abroad in Cuba!
My passion for connecting with prospective students began on campus, where I was a Student Ambassador and later served as President of the Ambassador Board. The experiences, friendships, and opportunities I found at Eckerd truly changed my life, and I am so grateful that I now have the opportunity to help future Tritons to find their own place here.
I grew up on Long Island, NY, so being near the water has always been a huge part of my life. As a kid, you could often find me searching for hermit crabs in the shallow water or out sailing with friends. Before returning to Eckerd, I worked at the New York Marine Rescue Center, a marine mammal and sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation center. My love for animals continues to be a huge part of my life!
Outside of work, I love spending time with friends, swimming, going on adventures, and, of course, eating Taco Bell while watching reality TV.
When I first arrived at Eckerd, I didn’t even know what a liberal arts education was. Now, I can’t imagine my college experience without it. At Eckerd, learning extends far beyond the classroom, and students are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, try new things, and see how different areas of study connect to one another. I’m so excited to share with you how special an Eckerd education can be and help you discover everything this community has to offer!
I am happy to answer any questions you may have! Please do not hesitate to reach out.
