Bulgarian ambassador to host screening at Miller Auditorium

Bulgarian Ambassador to the United States Her Excellency Amba Elena Poptodorova will host the screening of the Bulgarian film The Foreigner in Miller Auditorium at Eckerd College at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will kick off Bulgarian Culture Days coinciding with the 40th St. Petersburg International Folk Fair, Oct. 30 to November 2. The Bulgarian-American Cultural Center Rodina is a member of the St. Petersburg International  Folk Fair Society (SPIFFS).

Ambassador Poptodorova will make public remarks before the screening of The Foreigner, a 98-minute romantic comedy by filmmaker Niki Iliev. It was named Best Picture and Best Screenplay at the 2012 Los Angeles Comedy Fest and Best Foreign Film at the 2012 International Film Festival of Manhattan (New York, 2012), Award of the Audience at the Golden Rose.

The film is part of the International Film Series at Eckerd.

Other events during Bulgarian Culture Days include three exhibitions showcasing Bulgarian cultural heritage at the Art Gallery at the Gibbs Campus Music Center of St. Petersburg College, 6605 5th Ave. N. The exhibits are dedicated to the Bulgarian sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the Slavonic alphabet and to traditional Bulgarian and minorities festivities.
