Welcome to Eckerd!

My name is Sarah, and I am here to help you learn if our beautiful liberal arts college is the right fit for you. I graduated from Eckerd in 2018 with my Bachelor of Arts in History and East Asian Studies, and a minor in Japanese. In 2021, I earned my Master of Arts in Professional Creative Writing from the University of Denver. After spending four years working for the Walt Disney Company in theme parks such as EPCOT, I am excited to return to Eckerd as your admission counselor!

Eckerd became my home for four years, where the creative and open-minded community of students and faculty taught me to “think outside” and be my authentic self. Our study abroad opportunities enabled me to study in Japan on two separate trips, first during a language-immersion winter term, and later during a summer research program focused on environmental studies. I developed lasting relationships with several of my professors, who encouraged and supported me through opportunities like the Ford Apprentice Scholars Program, which is a two-year course of study involving summer research to prepare students for graduate school and a career in college or university teaching. I could not speak more highly of the mentorship system we have here at Eckerd.

Outside of academics, I developed my hobbies and gained friends through club activities by joining the EC Riptides Dance Team and co-founding an Avatar: The Last Airbender club called “Human Aangsperience” (a fun play on our first-year general education course, Human Experience). Through support from ECOS and Campus Activities, we were even able to bring Dante Basco, a voice actor from Avatar: The Last Airbender, to campus for an event about his life and experiences as an Asian American in the entertainment industry. You never know what you might discover and achieve on this campus!

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about our campus community, opportunities, and application process. Give me a call or send me an email, and let’s discuss if Eckerd might be your future home too!
