Biography

Briana Harvey rejoined the faculty at Eckerd in 2025, after serving as a visiting professor during the 2022-2023 school year. She previously taught in the psychology department from 2014- 2018. A proud Eckerd alumna, Briana earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies with a minor in marine biology before completing her M.A. in Experimental Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi, specializing in marine mammal behavior and cognition. After years of researching the social development of marine mammals, Briana’s interests shifted toward understanding child development, inspired by her own experiences as a mother of three.

Briana’s teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a hands-on, active learning environment, influenced by her Montessori training and experience. She believes in fostering an inclusive, engaging classroom where students can connect with the material in meaningful ways. She is passionate about supporting students’ academic growth and helping them develop critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom.

Outside of teaching, Briana enjoys spending time with her family, caring for her pets and foster animals, and watching sunsets at the beach.
