Why Business Administration and Management at Eckerd?

Explore the art, science, and craft of managing a common venture

The management program at Eckerd College offers students the unique opportunity to learn the art, the science and the craft of the discipline while gaining a liberal arts education.

Businesses do not operate in isolation and neither do our business students. Our business students graduate understanding the social, cultural, and environmental issues impacting businesses globally.

Small class sizes and close engagements with faculty and classmates with varied interests, allow students to develop strong interpersonal skills. Throughout their course of study, students will gain an understanding of organizational theories and leadership, while also earning a firm grasp on quantitative concepts and business analytics. Additionally, service learning, experiential learning and internships with various organizations allows the Eckerd student an opportunity to practice the craft of management.

Agility and reslience

Management requires agility and resilience in responding to both organizational and individual needs. Our management students are ethically-minded, creative, self-reflective leaders who understand the importance and responsibility of their roles in society. Uniquely, our students have opportunities to explore their Entrepreneurial Mindset and Conflict Dynamics Profile through different courses taught by Leadership Development Institute certified faculty. Importantly, all management faculty have experience in the business world which gives students great insight, and pairs well with the endless opportunities for internships.

Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity

Delta Sigma Pi at Eckerd College (Upsilon Phi chapter) is a professional, co-ed fraternity that helps prepare students for future careers in business. Through hands-on projects, networking events and leadership development, students gain practical, real-world experience and the confidence to lead with purpose—both on campus and beyond. All students interested in business are welcome!

The management discipline consists of two majors: management and business administration.

  • The management major provides the student with skills which can be utilized in any organization, be it for-profit, government or in the social sector. Students can explore tracks in general management, arts management, nonprofit management, or sports management.
  • The business administration major is geared to the student who wants to pursue a career within a for-profit corporate organization.

If a student is interested in a particular aspect of management or business administration, they are encouraged to work with one of our faculty to create an independent study which will further their knowledge and understanding of that particular portion of the discipline.
